1. Who does Yunxi Freight work with, and where can you deliver?
Yunxi Freight supports UK importers, wholesalers, retailers, Amazon sellers and brands sourcing goods from China. We coordinate collection, international transport, customs preparation and UK delivery, with warehousing where required. Destinations include Amazon fulfilment centres, third-party logistics (3PL) warehouses, commercial premises and eligible residential addresses. Cargo acceptance, postcode, access and receiving requirements must be checked before booking.
2. How do I arrange my first shipment from China to the UK?
Start by confirming what you are buying, when it will be ready and where it needs to go. Before your supplier dispatches anything, agree the collection or warehouse handover, packaging, import responsibilities and delivery scope. Yunxi can review the shipment information and identify missing documents. Booking and warehouse instructions should be confirmed before goods leave the supplier.
3. What information do you need for a freight quote?
Please provide the product description, material, use, photographs and cargo value; carton or pallet quantities; packed dimensions and gross weights; each supplier’s collection address and ready date; and the full UK delivery address and postcode. Include your required delivery date, proposed trade term and any FBA, appointment, access or unloading requirements. Share the commodity code if available.
4. Can you assess a small trial order or goods with special handling requirements?
Yes. Yunxi can assess small trial consignments through its consolidation service and review goods requiring particular packaging or handling. Acceptance depends on the product, packed size and weight, route and destination. Describe the goods fully before dispatch. The quotation must confirm any applicable minimum charge or acceptance condition; a general service description does not establish acceptance for an individual shipment.
Quotes, Charges and Payment
5. How should I compare China to UK freight quotations?
Compare the same cargo, route, delivery point and service scope, rather than the headline price alone. Check collection, origin handling, international freight, customs services, duty, import VAT, destination handling and final delivery separately. Ask which items are included, excluded or conditional. The quotation should also identify its validity period and the assumptions used for weights, dimensions and receiving conditions.
6. How do weight and dimensions affect the shipping charge?
Both weight and occupied space can affect the charge. Air and parcel services commonly compare actual weight with volumetric weight, calculated from packed dimensions. Sea freight may use volume, weight, a container rate or another agreed basis. The conversion factor, rounding and minimum charge depend on the service. Ask for the calculation basis and use measurements including pallets, crates and protective packaging.
7. What could lead to charges beyond the original quotation?
Changes in cargo measurements, product information, destination or handling needs can change the price. Customs examinations, storage, demurrage or detention, missed appointments and redelivery may also create costs, depending on the shipment and agreed terms. Do not assume these are included because a quote says DDP. Confirm exclusions and conditional charges, and tell us about changes before they affect the booking.
8. When should I confirm quote validity, payment and invoice details?
Confirm these in writing before accepting the quotation or arranging payment. Check the quoted currency, expiry date, payment timing, invoicing entity and any conditions that allow charges to be revised. Use the payment instructions supplied for the agreed booking, and verify changed bank details through a known contact. Booking-specific terms govern; this FAQ does not set a universal payment or refund policy.
Suppliers, Collection and Consolidation
9. Can you combine goods from several suppliers in China?
Yes. Yunxi’s collection and consolidation services can bring goods from several suppliers into an agreed dispatch plan. Provide a supplier-by-supplier list of locations, ready dates, quantities and cargo details. We can assess the receiving warehouse, cargo compatibility and preparation needed before shipment. Consolidation should be compared with separate dispatches on total cost and timing; it does not guarantee a saving for every order.
10. Should suppliers deliver to your warehouse, or can you collect?
Collection in China can be arranged, or suppliers can deliver to the warehouse specified for the shipment. Obtain the receiving address, reference, contact and delivery instructions before dispatch. If suppliers have different ready dates, agree a receiving cut-off and decide whether to wait or split the shipment. Confirm any storage or additional handling charges before holding early-arriving goods.
11. What packaging and checks are needed before dispatch?
Use packaging suitable for the product’s weight, fragility and handling throughout the journey. Confirm carton identification, pallet or crate needs and destination labels before goods reach the warehouse. Yunxi can review packing information and coordinate agreed preparation. Warehouse receiving checks record the shipment and identify visible issues; they do not replace product quality testing, a full count of internal contents or a compliance assessment of the product.
Shipping Options, Sailings and Transit Times
12. Should I choose sea freight or air freight?
Choose against the date the goods must be usable in the UK, their packed size and weight, and your budget. Sea freight is generally suited to less urgent replenishment; air freight may suit time-sensitive stock. Compare complete collection-to-delivery estimates and costs. For mixed priorities, Yunxi can assess whether an urgent batch and a later main shipment are practical, subject to cargo acceptance and capacity.
13. What is the difference between LCL and FCL shipping?
Less-than-container-load (LCL) shipping shares container space with other consignments. Full-container-load (FCL) shipping books a container for your shipment. Compare the packed volume, weight, handling requirements and total origin-to-destination cost. LCL involves consolidation and deconsolidation; FCL needs suitable loading and receiving arrangements. There is no single volume threshold at which FCL is always cheaper or more suitable.
14. What do cargo cut-off, document cut-off, ETD and ETA mean?
Cargo cut-off is the deadline for goods to meet the specified receiving or loading requirement; document cut-off is the deadline for the required paperwork. ETD means estimated time of departure, and ETA means estimated time of arrival at the stated location. Check the exact time, time zone and location for each entry. A sailing schedule helps planning but does not confirm space or cargo acceptance.
15. Is the port ETA my delivery date, and what happens if dates change?
No. Port ETA covers estimated vessel arrival, not customs release or delivery to your address. Door-to-door planning must also allow for collection, origin handling, cargo availability, deconsolidation where applicable and onward delivery. If dates change, check the latest confirmed milestone, revised estimate and receiving arrangements. Published transit times are estimates; a guaranteed delivery date should not be assumed from the schedule.
DDP, DAP and UK Customs
16. What is the difference between DDP and DAP?
DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) places import clearance and applicable duties and taxes with the seller. Under DAP (Delivered at Place), these are the buyer’s responsibility. Both deliver at an agreed named place, ready for unloading. They allocate responsibilities in the sale contract; the freight booking must separately confirm its service scope and the lawful importer and customs representation arrangements.
17. Is DDU the same as DAP?
DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid) is a historical trade term and is not an Incoterms® 2020 rule. It is still used informally, but that wording alone does not establish the intended obligations. If a supplier or quotation says DDU, clarify the named place, import clearance, duties, VAT and unloading responsibilities, then record the agreed term and version rather than assuming it means DAP.
18. What documents are needed for UK customs clearance or an inspection?
Prepare a commercial invoice, packing list and relevant transport document, supported by clear product descriptions, materials, uses, values, origin and commodity codes. Importer details, authorisation and product-specific licences or certificates may also be required. If customs requests more evidence, provide accurate supporting records through the appointed agent. Advance document review can identify gaps, but it cannot prevent an inspection or guarantee release.
19. Who is the importer, and do I need an EORI or VAT number?
The importer, delivery recipient and customs agent can be different parties. Confirm whose name, EORI and any VAT details will appear on the declaration, and who authorises the agent. EORI identifies a business for customs; VAT registration serves a different purpose. Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) generally uses a GB EORI, while Northern Ireland requires a separate assessment. DDP does not automatically make Yunxi or the recipient the importer.
Import VAT and PVA
20. Are customs duty and import VAT the same charge?
No. Customs duty and import VAT are separate. Duty treatment depends on classification, origin and applicable measures; import VAT follows the relevant VAT rules and valuation. A duty-free tariff rate does not necessarily remove import VAT. Check the treatment for the actual product and import arrangement. PVA concerns how eligible import VAT is accounted for; customs duty must be addressed separately.
21. What is postponed VAT accounting (PVA)?
PVA allows eligible UK VAT-registered businesses to account for import VAT on their VAT Return instead of paying it upfront at import. It may help cash flow, but it does not remove VAT or customs duty. Any VAT recovery remains subject to the normal rules. Keep the import records and postponed import VAT statements needed by your business or accountant.
22. What must be confirmed before using PVA?
Confirm UK VAT registration, the right to dispose of the goods for business use, and the correct VAT and EORI details for the declaration. The person importing on your behalf needs written PVA instructions before submitting it. Territorial rules differ: PVA covers eligible imports into Great Britain from outside the UK, and into Northern Ireland from outside the UK and EU. Low-value consignments and some import procedures have different rules.
23. Does choosing DDP or DAP automatically mean I can use PVA?
No. Trade terms do not establish PVA eligibility or determine whose VAT account is used. Agree the importer, VAT treatment and declaration instructions before shipment. Yunxi can coordinate shipment documents and customs preparation for an eligible arrangement. Your appointed customs agent must apply the agreed instructions, while your business and tax adviser remain responsible for VAT reporting and recovery. VAT registration and accountancy services are not implied.

Discuss Customs and PVAAmazon FBA, Warehousing and UK Delivery
24. What should I prepare for an Amazon UK FBA shipment?
Create the inbound shipment in your seller account and provide the assigned fulfilment centre, shipment references, carton contents and current labels. Confirm the packaging and pallet requirements applicable to that shipment. Yunxi can coordinate collection, freight, customs preparation and delivery against the information you provide. Arrange the importer and tax responsibilities separately; an Amazon delivery address does not establish the importer.
25. How are FBA appointments and delivery problems handled?
Confirm whether the chosen delivery method requires a booking and which party will arrange it. Use the current shipment and receiving instructions from Seller Central; requirements vary with the destination and delivery method. If delivery is refused or rescheduled, obtain the reason before agreeing a recovery plan. Storage, corrective preparation and redelivery require assessment and may create charges; priority appointments are not assumed.
26. Does proof of delivery mean my FBA stock is available for sale?
No. Proof of delivery (POD) records a transport delivery event. Amazon’s receipt, reconciliation, processing and making inventory available for sale are separate steps. Keep the shipment references, carton information and delivery evidence, and monitor the shipment in Seller Central. Yunxi can help check the transport record; delivery confirmation does not guarantee when Amazon will finish processing the stock.
27. Can you arrange UK warehousing or delivery to my 3PL?
Yes. Yunxi’s UK warehouse network supports agreed storage, handling and onward delivery arrangements, including delivery to an external 3PL. Provide expected stock quantities, storage duration, release instructions and the receiving warehouse’s requirements. If returns or relabelling are needed, describe the task for assessment. Confirm the facility, accepted goods, operating scope and charges before dispatch; storage does not automatically include order fulfilment or every warehouse operation.
28. Does delivery to a business or home include unloading or carrying goods inside?
Not automatically. The agreed delivery scope must state the delivery point and who provides unloading equipment and labour. Tell us about vehicle access, steps, narrow entrances, receiving hours and any tail-lift or indoor handling request. Tail-lift suitability depends on the load and site. Neither a residential address nor a DDP booking alone confirms unloading, room-of-choice delivery or installation.
29. What information is needed for oversized or palletised cargo?
Provide the packed dimensions and gross weight of every unit, photographs, pallet or crate details, stackability and lifting requirements. Include the delivery postcode, vehicle access and available unloading equipment. Yunxi can assess packaging and transport arrangements against those details. Acceptance limits depend on the route, equipment and receiving site; a general oversized service listing does not confirm acceptance of a particular item.
Tracking, Changes and Shipment Support
30. How can I track my shipment, and why might the status pause?
Use the shipment reference and tracking instructions provided for your booking. Yunxi’s milestone tracking covers key stages such as warehouse receipt, international transport, customs and delivery. Updates depend on operational confirmations and data availability; a pause is not proof that cargo is lost. If an expected milestone is overdue, ask your contact to check the latest confirmed event, outstanding action and revised estimate.
31. Can I change the delivery address or receiving instructions after booking?
Request the change as soon as possible and provide the booking reference, revised address and full receiving requirements. Changes depend on the shipment stage, carrier, customs position and destination acceptance. Do not assume an instruction has taken effect until it is confirmed. A change may require amended documents, a new appointment, additional charges or a revised delivery estimate.
32. What should I do if goods are missing or damaged, and is insurance included?
Report the issue promptly with the shipment reference, delivery record, photographs of the goods and packaging, and details of the affected quantities. Retain packaging and supporting invoices while the case is reviewed. Confirm insurance, exclusions, claim deadlines and liability terms for your booking before dispatch. A transport claim and an insurance claim can follow different terms; this FAQ does not promise automatic cover or a fixed payout.
Prepare your next shipment
Bring together the product details, carton or pallet quantities, packed dimensions and weights, cargo value, supplier ready dates, and full UK address and postcode. Add the known importer and EORI/VAT details, plus any FBA, appointment, access and unloading requirements. If something is undecided, identify it so it can be clarified before booking.
Bring the cargo details and delivery requirements together so we can assess a suitable shipping plan.
